FAQs

Enrollment & Age

We welcome children from 3 to 5 years of age as per the licence. Each classroom may also have two children between 30 and 36 months. At times we may take one or two more with special approval from Vancouver Coastal Health.

Parents can call us to book an appointment for a personal tour. Tours take place only in the morning from 11 am to 12 pm. This is when our children are outside for daily play.

We do carry a waitlist. It is common for children under 3 years of age

You can apply once you have visited us for a tour. After that you will fill out our Registration Form and pay a one-time Registration Fee.

Programs & Curriculum

It is a method that helps children learn at their own pace. Teachers guide children with different materials and real life activities. This way children grow in confidence and show love for learning.

In a Montessori classroom, children take part in activities that match their own interests. In a traditional daycare or preschool all children usually follow the same plan.

We offer both full-time and part-time options. The full-time program runs Monday to Friday. The part-time program can be three days or two days each week. Parents can choose the days that fit their family best.

We have one classroom for children who are 3 to 4 years old and another for children who are 4 to 5 years old. Each class may also include two younger children who are between 30 and 36 months.

We prepare children by placing them in classrooms based on age. The Lower Classroom is for children from 3 to 4 years old. The Upper Classroom is for children from 4 years old until school age. When children leave Mes Petits they are ready to begin Grade 1 with confidence.

Daily Routine

Your child’s day is full of purposeful activities. Our teachers adapt lessons to match each child’s style of learning. Some children learn best through sight others through sound and some through movement. Our activities are planned both in the classroom and outdoors.

Yes. Younger children between 3 and 4 years often nap from 1 pm to 3 pm. Older children between 4 and 5 years usually do not nap. We still offer quiet time for everyone.

Children go outdoors from 11 am to 12 pm each day in every season. In summer they also spend extra time outside in the afternoon.

Parents prepare and pack their child’s lunch and snacks each day

Safety & Licensing

Yes. We are licensed for Group Day Care for children 3 to 5 years of age.

We keep a ratio of one teacher for every eight children.

We take safety very seriously. Fire drills are done every month. Earthquake drills are done twice each year.

Children are picked up only by their parents, grandparents or other close family members. Nannies who care for the child can also pick them up. If another person is picking up a child, we must have written permission from the parents.

Parent Communication

Our daily schedule is explained in the Parent Handbook. Parents receive the handbook when they enroll their child. Children also complete many projects in the classroom. Most of their creative work is sent home at the end of each week or month

We do not hold regular interviews or give written reports like traditional schools. Instead our teachers are always open to meet with parents.

Tuition & Fees

Our current fees are listed on the Fees and Forms page. Parents can review the full details there
